Ronald Reagan finally has the opportunity to go solo and have our very own Boy’s Basketball team for the first time this November! In the past Reagan’s basketball teams have been combined with other schools, such as Pulaski or Milwaukee Juneau high schools. Reagan originally teamed up with other schools because when Reagan became an IB school, there wasn't many students were enrolled at the time. Now that there’s over a thousand students, there’s a strong demand for our own team.
Mr. Mayer, Reagan’s Athletic Director, explained how Reagan came to have our own team. Mayer said in an interview that “a combination of people made the decision of having our own team... we felt like Reagan was ready for its own team.”
Ronald Reagan having its own boys basketball team is a very big deal even if your not the biggest basketball fan. It shows how our school is developing, becoming independent, and growing. Also having our own basketball teams mean they need way more support from students here at Reagan! “It’s ideal for Reagan to have its own team, and it makes sense,” Mayer said. He pointed out that Reagan has a gym, and people willing to play, “It will also give the players a better high school experience with more play time and opportunities in learning.”
Mayer expects success for Reagan’s first season, saying that “a lot of people from last year were already from Reagan from the conjoined team.” Another little preview the Howler got was of the possible design of the jerseys our team may be wearing. The first Reagan Boys Basketball Team will be in blue and white with the word “Husky” on back above the player number. This new team will need all of our Reganite support, to cheer them on as they take the court on November 28th. If you would like to be a part of this team, Tryouts are scheduled for November 13th.
