Dear Anonymous,
People’s love for sports can be seen everywhere because there are many different sports and people all over the world that play them. The reasons why some are interested in sports varies.Someone can play a sport because they want to take after their favorite player, to have a good athletic career or simply because they love the sport they play or just sports in general. It is sometimes difficult to remember to reflect and evaluate whether or not how involved in sports you are is a healthy amount or even if you're playing for the right reasons. Here are some ways to easily do just that!
Who Am I Playing For?
You have to sometimes ask yourself who you are playing for when you are out there playing your hardest. Sometimes a person can be pressured into playing a sport because someone in their life makes them feel like they have to. In all reality, if you are not playing for yourself, then it’s time to reevaluate your motives. You are the one playing with all your effort, and it takes more than just that person cheering you on. It also takes you wanting it as much as you seem to want it. When playing sports, it is also important to keep all priorities in your life balanced and recognize if the sport is too much of a priority, it’s time to chill out.
Is Sports Becoming Too Much Of A Priority?
You may realize that you’ve forgotten something important or didn’t finish that one assignment and then you realize that you spend more time on your sport of choice then anything else. When sports become your entire life and you feel less of a need for anything else, that can become a problem. Balance is everything and is always key to being organized. When you focus your time on one thing more than anything else, your life can get unbalanced. Having an unbalanced life is not something anyone should have but it is not uncommon.Being balanced takes hard work and a lot of planning. More often than not, it's too much and people give up but that's alright because not everything works the same for everyone. It only matters that there is a system for you that you can easily remember and dedicate yourself to so that you are staying at the level of balance that is best for you. It is most important that you keep up with everything in your life. It is okay for you have to take some time off of some things in order to make time for something else that may be more important at the time.
Am I being to competitive in sports?
Winning is always a great feeling when you have people to share it with but this may be difficult when you are overly competitive and put too much into your sport of choice. When you play, you feel this huge rush and this gigantic need to win. This feeling can be so overtaking that you may not consider others’ feelings. Being competitive can be good, such as helping drive you towards you goal and winning but also it can be bad, such as being a sore loser or in some cases a sore winner. Neither are good and neither can leave you in a good situation when you act in the way these people do. When you do, your actions may be largely based on your emotions and you don’t really care about the feelings of others when you're acting on these emotions. Remembering that you aren’t the only one playing can be a good reminder but it takes a lot of practice to get rid of a bad habit.
There is nothing wrong with loving sports, it's only bad when you let them control your life and your actions. You have to remember that you are the one out there playing your hardest so you're playing for yourself. When you're playing you have to make sure that you don't put all of your time and energy into the effort that it takes to play that you have to remember to make time for other things in your life because balance is key. One of the most important things to remember is that you have to love the sport that you're playing because it's what you love to do and not what someone else wants you to do. If you don't love it as much as you do because you want to, then there is really no reason to be playing.
