I'm Thankful For...
A POEM BY CHLOE HAAPALA
NOVEMBER 18th, 2015 My family who taught me how to be the person I am. For raising me in their own way, and giving me a choice of what I wanted to do. My friends who gifted me with laughter. Who will always support me when I fall. My teachers who showed me the right and wrong way to do things. Helping me grow in more ways than one and give me a sense of direction. My past lovers who gave me the time of my life and broke my heart. Teaching me how to better myself and manage my time. For everyone who has come in and out of my life… Teaching me something new with every passing by. |
christmas
POEM BY LEONARDO ESPINOZA
Christmas, the time of joy and happiness, What this holiday makes us witness, The presents we give to others, As well as the ones we receive from others, With the family together, sharing, As well as eating and giving, Hanging out with family and your parents, As well as visiting grandparents Christmas, a time of peace, A time to put a centerpiece on the table, Oh, what great amounts of food! It also gets me in the mood, To eat some extra dessert, Showing the force I want to exert, On the extra piece of fruitbread, As long as it leaves room for gingerbread cookies. Makes me full of stuffing, After everyone's done eating. Christmas, a time of giving, Also the time of getting, When all gather to give and get, To be given and get Christmas present. The night before we wait for the big man in red, Santa Claus leaving presents under the tree when you’re in bed. Leaving cookies and milk out on a tray, in exchange for some presents for your ilk. (ilk = family) Christmas, the time of shopping, Shopping for the right present worth giving. Time to not be a grouch, Rather slouch on a couch, With a bag of chips, Watch movies with good scripts, Without saying “bah humbug,” Unless you need a hug. Christmas, time to enjoy, Because oh boy, it’s a joy, To be with family and friends, And avoiding the dividends, While getting and giving, Which I wish to do for a living Christmas is great and happy, And it should fill you with glee. |
Christmas Cheer
POEM BY HAILEY LENTZ
Waking up and it's dark outside, 6 am on a December morning Waking up and it’s snowing, your mom’s car is stuck in the driveway Waking up and it’s below freezing, your dad telling you school is cancelled The smell of eggnog drifting from the kitchen to your room The sweet aroma of delicious hot chocolate The red and green stockings hanging from the fireplace The festive dark green tree in your living room The bright, shining ornaments in which you can see your own reflection There are bunches of mistletoe hanging right above your parents’ heads There are ugly knitted sweaters stitched with love There are Christmas tunes playing from the stereo There are piles of beautifully wrapped gifts There are classic holiday movies laid all over the tabletop Many goods are a part of Christmas Many traditions to follow in this time of celebration Many recipes and stories to share Through the evening Santa comes in your house Through the chimney Through the house in a dazzling red coat Through the kitchen a cherry colored hat Through the hallway with his bleached white beard Through the living room with his golden framed glasses This is giving This is joy This is holiday tradition This is spirit This is Christmas carols This is Christmas Eve This is Christmas |
